For many years, Velpro was sold through Avangate, our original e-commerce provider, also known as merchant of records. A merchant of records deals with the payment system on an e-commerce website, and all the legal things around it (sending the digital goods, invoices, taxes, etc).
At the time, Avangate stood out because it supported a wide range of credit card options and even allowed buyers to order a USB key with the software preloaded. Since online shopping wasn’t yet common, these features helped build trust with our customers.
Over time, Avangate was acquired by 2Checkout, which was later purchased by Verifone. Recently, Verifone informed us that they would no longer support our account.
As a result, after several days of setup and testing, we’ve migrated our payment system from Avangate to a new merchant of record called Polar.sh. The team at Polar.sh has been quick to respond, and their platform is already polished and reliable. While a few features are still on the way, we’re confident they’ll continue to improve.
